What made you decide to start your own business?
I had worked for Arthur McKay for a number of years and was given the opportunity to buy the company. It was a very easy decision to make.
What’s been your biggest success in business to date?
Transforming Arthur McKay from a small electrical firm, based in Edinburgh, into a UK wide business providing electrical, mechanical, networks and facilities management services.
What’s been the best business advice you’ve been given?
Don’t give up.
Which entrepreneur inspires you the most?
Andrew Carnegie. He built a vast company in a foreign country, despite starting work at the age of 14 on the shop floor of a cotton mill, and then helped many people with the wealth he had accumulated.
Which three qualities do you think you are most important to have as an entrepreneur?
Determination, perseverance and a willingness to learn.
What business tool could you not live without?
My iPhone.
